Welcome to A Spoonful of Adaptation

We’ve all heard the song: “A spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down.” It’s a lovely thought, isn’t it? But for those of us living what we call the “Spoonie” life, sometimes the medicine life hands us is a bit more than a single spoonful can mask.

I’m a single mom, a healthcare provider, a student, and a lifelong navigator of chronic physical and mental health challenges. I also happen to be Autistic. In my world—and in the world of my two beautiful daughters who face their own health battles—change isn’t just an occasional guest; it’s the person living in the spare bedroom.

I’ve spent my life watching my own mother navigate these same stormy waters, and if there is one thing I’ve learned, it’s this: To live is to adapt.

What is a “Spoonful”?

A Spoonful of Adaptation is my refusal to stay down when life kicks my butt. It is a digital space dedicated to the art of pivoting. Whether you are navigating a fresh diagnosis, parenting through your own flare-ups, or simply trying to figure out how to manage a household when your energy levels are at zero, you are welcome here.

On this blog, we explore how to make the best out of life through:

 * Practical Coping Techniques for mental and physical hurdles.

 * Parenting Hacks for when both you and your kids are struggling.

 * Relationship Skills that thrive on honesty and boundary-setting.

 * Daily Life Adjustments that make the “impossible” chores possible again.

The “Sugar” in the Struggle

You might wonder how I keep going. For me, the “sugar” that makes the hard stuff palatable is a mixture of unwavering faith, raw honesty, and a necessary sense of humor. I’m a creative, strong-willed caretaker by nature. When I run into a wall, I don’t just sit in front of it—I find a way to paint a door on it, climb over it, or build a bridge. I do things my way, regardless of what “typical” society might think, because my priority is finding a way forward for my family.

Who is this for?

I’m writing for you. Whether you’re single, part of a couple, a parent, or a young person just starting out, whether you are perfectly healthy or have been a “Spoonie” for decades—everyone has to adapt eventually. I want you to feel like you’re sitting down with a trusted friend who “gets it.” No judgment, just real talk and real solutions.

When I’m Not Adapting…

(Though let’s be real, I’m always adapting!) You can find me tending to my “zoo,” which currently includes two dogs, a cat, two bearded dragons, a snake, and a school of fish. I’m a lover of many plants, an arts-and-crafts enthusiast, and a soul who finds peace in nature. Give me a hiking trail, a campsite, or a quiet fishing spot, and I’m home.

Thank you for being here. Grab your spoon, find your sugar, and let’s learn how to adapt together.
